Use cases

Worked examples of the shapes the Calendar is built for — the data behind each one, the fields to bind, and the settings worth changing. Each is a starting point, not a rule.

Resource and room bookings

Who has which room, desk, vehicle or machine, and when. Overlaps are the point: a booking calendar exists to make double-bookings obvious.

Settings: Default View Week, Work Hours set to your opening hours, Max Events Per Cell 5.

tip

Overlapping timed events are laid out side by side in Week and Day view, so a room that's double-booked reads instantly. Pair the calendar with a room slicer so people can isolate one resource.

Absence and leave calendar

Who is off, and when. This is the classic case for inclusive end dates: nobody writes "off from the 9th to the 14th" meaning they're back on the 14th.

Settings: End Date Interpretation → Inclusive, Default View Month, Holidays on for your country, Work Hours matching your working week.

tip

Turning holidays on gives absence data its context — a "short" week is obvious when the public holiday is on the grid beside it.

Campaign and content calendar

Marketing campaigns, content pieces and launches across a quarter, coloured by channel or by owner.

Settings: Default View Quarter, Legend on the Top, Max Events Per Cell 3.

tip

Quarter view is the one to lead with here: three months side by side is how campaign overlap and dead air actually become visible. Leave Month and List enabled so people can drill in.

Deadlines and milestones

Point-in-time events — invoices, filings, contract renewals, go-live dates, milestone gates. There is no end date at all.

Settings: Default View Month or List, Tooltips on, colours set so At risk is unmistakable.

tip

Colour by state, not by project: a deadline calendar is read for what needs attention, and "at risk in red" is the fastest possible read.

Shift rosters and on-call

Who is working which shift, or carrying the pager, across a week.

Settings: Default View Week, Work Hours covering the whole operating window (e.g. 6 → 22, all seven days on), Day view enabled for inspecting one day.

tip

A shift crossing midnight is drawn on both days, with squared-off edges. Set your working hours to the operating window rather than office hours, so the grid opens on the part of the day that matters.

Maintenance windows and change freezes

Planned downtime, releases and freeze periods — where the absence of a window matters as much as its presence.

Settings: Default View Month, Holidays on, Work Hours set to business hours, Quarter view enabled for freeze planning.

tip

Holidays and working-hours shading turn this calendar into a risk check: a change scheduled on a public holiday or inside business hours is visible before it's approved, not after.
